I'm a boy! My mommy Antoinette and daddy Bobby are super excited but now need help naming me so pleeeease give them some suggestions so I don't end up with a name like Tobi (Toni & Bobby put together...wah!)
Keep in mind that I am of Mexican decent so think of something cool/Rico Suave like.  Oh! and by the way, doctor took a look at me today and said I look beautiful and that I'm growing perfect (his exact words, but hey what can I say, look at my mother lol). We've reached the halfway mark! Yipeeee!

On Thursday the 10th we reach the halfway mark (20 weeks) and we are super excited to have reached this milestone in our pregnancy (for more than one reason). It doesn't seem like that long ago we created this blog to share our babies first ultrasound photo's/video of our little baby chicken (as Hijah, Bobby's daughter says the baby looks like on the ultrasound picture lol).

This upcoming week has been highly anticipated because on Wednesday, March 16th we will be having our anatomy scan/ultrasound allowing us to see the baby from head to toe, go over the results of all of the blood screening test that were taken in the first trimester and most excitedly we will be learning the babies gender! We will post the results of the babies’ gender here so make sure you check back on the 16th!

How your baby's growing:

Congratulations! You've hit the halfway mark in your pregnancy. Your baby weighs about 10 1/2 ounces now. He's also around 6 1/2 inches long from head to bottom and about 10 inches from head to heel — the length of a banana. (For the first 20 weeks, when a baby's legs are curled up against his torso and hard to measure, measurements are taken from the top of his head to his bottom — the "crown to rump" measurement. After 20 weeks, he's measured from head to toe.)
He's swallowing more these days, which is good practice for his digestive system. He's also producing meconium, a black, sticky by-product of digestion. This gooey substance will accumulate in his bowels, and you'll see it in his first soiled diaper (some babies pass meconium in the womb or during delivery).

Ten Little fingers, Ten little toes. Boy or Girl, no one knows!

We're going strong into the 14th week with slight anticipation of  what our child's gender will be. The anticipation is somewhat exciting. On March 14th (God's willing) we will have our level 2 gender scan/ultrasound and we will know then what our babies sex is! 


I've learned that some expectant parents opt to not have a gender scan and rather wait until their child is born to learn their child's sex adding the element of  surprise. I think this is great (if you have the patience) however we want to know! :-) 


My "maternal" instincts tell me it's a boy, Bobby also thinks it's a boy. It's interesting to hear what others suspect the baby will be. I've heard so many old wives tales on how you can tell the gender and some are just out hilarious! The best (or worst) is the string and pencil test, or better yet the Chinese gender test which supposedly determines the sex based on the month and age of the mother at conception. Admittedly, for entertainment, I tried the ladder of the two but could in no way take it serious after one website told me that I was having a boy and other website said a girl. Being that I am not carrying twins I think it would be safe to say that any gender test that is not done by ultrasound or by seeing the babies actual "parts" is pretty much a fluke. 


We are not hung up on what our babies sex will be but it is something that we think about. We just pray that our child will be as healthy as possible and has it's momma's looks! lol  

Also, we have been given some really good suggestions on names so far but haven't sat down to go through them all. We will spend some time looking over the names and we will post the ones that are most popular and hopefully you all can help us narrow it down. Thank you for all the suggestions, we really want our families to be involved in this wonderful time in our lives. We know that without your support this experience would not be as wonderful as it has been thus far.

13 Weeks today, Start of 2nd Trimester Yay!

We are super excited to reach this point. We are now in our second trimester and the risk of miscarriage drops significantly. This is exciting for us because as a "high risk" pregnancy (due to my diabetes) can increase the chances of complications, including spontaneous miscarriage. So today is an exciting day for us!

Week 13

Baby: Your fully formed fetus, now in about its 11th week of development, measures 2.6 to 3.1 inches from crown to rump and weighs between half an ounce and seven-tenths of an ounce -- about the size of a peach. The head is still disproportionately bigger than the body, but the rest of the body is starting to catch up. In fact, your baby is growing rapidly these days. The face is starting to look more human, with eyes moving closer together, veins and organs are clearly visible through her still-thin skin, and her body is starting to catch up with her head. Toes and fingerprints have formed on your baby's tiny fingers are clearly separate, and ankles and wrists have formed. External genitalia are becoming visible. Intestines are shifting into their proper place, too. If you are having a girl, she now has more than 2 million eggs in her ovaries.

Mom-to-be: Your uterus has grown a lot. It's filling your pelvis now and starting to grow upward into your abdomen. It probably feels like a soft, smooth ball. If you haven't put on any weight yet because of morning sickness, you'll begin to now as you start to feel better.

The Discovery of Our Baby

November 30th, 2010 I had a sudden hunch to take a pregnancy test. Myself and Bobby had no reason to suspect we could be pregnant. I had no symptoms; was on birth control and felt perfectly normal. To our surprise the test came back positive. The line that indicates a positive result was very faint so myself and Bobby questioned the accuracy, and to be certain we took another test. Same results. Maybe denial was setting in but shock and uncertainty came over us, so we made a late night trip to the grocery store to purchase another test. This test came back positive, again. Three test, all positive. The results couldn't have been any clearer. We were pregnant and we couldn't believe it.   

Naturally, when life changing events arise in your life suddenly with no warning, it can cause feelings of uncertainty, doubt and many other feelings both positive and negative. In my case, I felt them all. The good and not so good.

As of today, I have gotten over all the feelings of uncertainty and myself and Bobby are really happy and excited to be expectant parents of a whole new life! Our baby is growing fine and has a lot of wonderful people highly anticipating it's arrival.

Although having a child at this time was not necessarily a part of mine or Bobby's own personal plans  for our lives, it was obviously part of God's and when he has his hand in something, only greatness comes from it. We are confident that the love that God has for us and the love we have for each other will be the driving force in our pursuit of healthy parenthood. We hope to be the best parents we can possibly be and we will strive to provide a healthy, stable and positive environment of our baby.

We are so grateful for our families and the unconditional love and support that they have given and continue to give us. The excitement from our loved ones is what keeps us going. It is so wonderful to know how loved this baby will be!
